On National Waterway No. 2 LAD of 2 m is being maintained between Dhubri-Neamati for most part of the year and day channel marking are being maintained. Floating terminals are provided at Dhubri, Jogighopa and Pandu. CIWTC has been requested to transfer the pontoons to IWAI on book value basis for setting up of additional terminals. Two new pantoons have been constructed by IWAI for NW-2 out of which one is being used at Pandu terminal as floating jetty.

Under an approved scheme, construction of one Hydraulic Surface Dredger for NW-2 at a cost of Rs. 5.23 Cr is in progress through M/s HDPE, Kolkata. Under another approved scheme construction of one survey launch for NW-2 has been completed at HDPE, Calcutta. Trials of the vessel has also been completed and vessel has been delivered at Guwahati. Construction is also in progress for three more survey vessels. Another scheme for construction of two cutter suction dredger with work boats and accommodation boat is in the process of approval by the Govt.

Scheme for providing night navigational facilities between Dhubri and Guwahati is under implementation. Proposal is also in the approval stage for construction of one permanent inter model terminal at Pandu with mechanical loading/unloading facilities.


Cargo Movement

The CIWTC Ltd. and the Government of Assam operate river services on the Brahmaputra. The cargo is also moved in India- Bangladesh route. The total cargo moved on Kolkata/Pandu - Bangladesh route during 1999-2000 was about 21837 tonnes.






For transportation of IWT cargo between Kolkata and North Eastern region of India and export/import cargo to/from Bangladesh, 'Transit and Trade Protocol Arrangement' between India and Bangladesh exists. The present protocol is valid up to 03-10-2001.
