On NW-2, 2 mtr LAD has been provided between Dhubri and Neamati for a distance of 630 kms. It is proposed to provide LAD of 2 mtr from Dhubri to Dibrugarh for a distance of 768 kms for 330 days in a year. Floating terminals have been provided at Dhubri and Pandu. Five pontoons have been constructed for providing floating terminals at Jogighopa, Tezpur, Neamati, Dibrugarh and Sadiya/Saikhowa. A scheme for construction of permanent terminal at Pandu has been approved and CPWD has been entrusted the work of design and construction of this jetty. Thalweg survey is conducted on the entire waterway and river notices being issued on fortnightly basis. A scheme for provision of night navigational aids between Dhubri-Guwahati is under implementation. A scheme for procurement of one Cutter Suction Dredging unit for NW-2 is under implementation.

 
Cargo Movement

Cargo

The CIWTC Ltd. and the Government of Assam operate river services on the Brahmaputra. The cargo is also moved in India- Bangladesh route. The total cargo moved on Kolkata/Pandu - Bangladesh route during the year 2003-04 was 9479 M.T.





 

For transportation of IWT cargo between Kolkata and North Eastern region of India and export/import cargo to/from Bangladesh, 'Transit and Trade Protocol Arrangement' between India and Bangladesh exists. The present protocol is valid up to 03-10-2001.
