The IT Department of the Inland Waterways Authority of India was set up in the year 1987 with the objective of maintaining the information system and monitoring of activities of the Authority. The IT Department is assisting all wings and addressing to their problems regarding technological issues which comprises of hardware and software assistance. The IT department plans, operates and supports the IT infrastructure, meets up technical requirements and minimize costs, enabling employees to carry out their official works efficiently and securely.
The IT Department is deploying the latest Internet Protocol networks with the capability to carry all voice, data, video and Internet traffic on a single network.
NICNET connectivity in all Regional Offices i.e. Patna, Kolkata, Guwahati and Kochi, and HO is made available for working on eOffice. Additionally, NIC e-mail is provided to the officials of all offices to discharge their official works.
Approximately, a total of 71 numbers of computer system are connected through LAN in IWAI HO Noida. LAN connectivity is also provided in all ROs as well. Further, leased line connectivity has also been installed for faster internet browsing and execution of other official works to all ROs i.e., Patna, Kolkata, Guwahati and Kochi, and the HO.
IWAI has its own website namely “iwai.nic.in” which contains information on IWAI, National Waterways details, ongoing scheme, tender information, important circular / OM, forms etc. The website is updated periodically.
IWAI has developed a portal for internal use namely “iwaiportal.nic.in”. This portal is being used for preparation of payroll, GPF preparation & monitoring, Employee Information System, Inward/Outward Permission for Vessels Plying in Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route etc. In addition to this, a portal named FOCAL [Forum Of Cargo Owners and Logistics Operators] has been developed to connect ship operators and cargo owners.
Implementation of Government of India CPP Portal for e-procurement of tenders costing more than 2 lakhs has also been implemented in IWAI.
In addition to these, a Bar-Code based IMTS [Inventory Management and Tracking System] portal has been developed by NICSI empanelled agency and is been maintained by IWAI. This portal records and keeps tracks of inventories. Aadhaar based BAS [Biometric Attendance System] is also looked after by the IT Department in which Aadhaar details and attendance of each employee are maintained.
In order to know the status of the projects of organization, Govt. of India developed eSamiksha portal. For providing status information of each project from every department, a separate person has been given login/password to update this information in eSamiksha portal.
